About Mikkel Rønnow

As a producer, Mikkel Rønnow has been behind successful musicals, concerts and theater performances in Denmark for more than 30 years.

Recent years have featured the new Danish musical Margrethe at the Royal Theatre, the world premiere of the Lennon & McCartney musical She Loves You in Tivoli, as well as the largest revival of the all-time greatest Danish musical success Atlantis in Tivoli.

Mikkel Rønnow has a special relationship with the musical Chess, which he has produced five times and conducted at more than 200 performances. The most recent production in 2018 was the best reviewed musical in Tivoli ever. The show also received two award nominations and an audience of more than 80,000.

Together with Stig Rossen, Mikkel Rønnow has produced the shows Chess, Copacabana and Les Misérables, all of which toured throughout the country with internationally cast roles.

Other major musicals include an international cast in My Fair Lady in the original language, the Reumert-nominated Grease with Sofie Lassen-Kahlke and David Bowie’s musical Lazarus in a co-production with Aarhus Theater and Det Kongelige Teater.

During four years as head producer at Aarhus Theatre, Mikkel Rønnow produced a large number of plays, theater concerts and musicals, including the Reumert-winning theater concert with songs by Leonard Cohen and the Danish premiere of Bergman’s Fanny & Alexander.

Mikkel Rønnow produced the first edition of the Copenhagen Opera Festival with performances such as La Traviata and Opera i Dødsriget, and as creative producer for The One And Only Company he helped create the successes Dirty Dancing, Tam Tam and Grease in Tivoli.

Produced and conducted the concert tours I Love Musicals 1 and 2 with, among others, Preben Kristensen, Flemming Enevold and Maria Lucia, as well as the theater concert Made in Aarhus, which toured the whole country with 4 decades of hits from the music city of Aarhus.

Alongside being a producer, Mikkel Rønnow has an extensive career as bandmaster, and in this capacity has conducted musicals such as Sweeney Todd, La Cage Aux Folles, Cabaret and Chess at Aarhus Theatre, Candide at Den Fynske Opera, Chess at Fredericia Theatre, West Side Story in Musikhuset Aarhus and on DR P2 as well as the concerts Music of the Night with Flemming Enevold and Susanne Elmark, the musical oratorio Guds Gøgler and three years of castle concerts at Lynderupgaard.

Has released eight albums with musical repertoire on her own record label, including Louise Fribo’s Look With Your Heart with the Odense Symphony Orchestra, Atlantis on triple LP and three different Chess albums, including an internationally acclaimed complete recording with Stig Rossen and the West End cast.
